A snowmobiler was killed Saturday in a collision with a pickup truck south of the Twin Cities metro area.

The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. in Montgomery Township, Le Sueur County, with the sheriff’s office reporting that the snowmobiler collided with the truck on Lexington Road near 173rd Ave.

Investigators say 55-year-old Larry Gene Haynes was riding the snowmobiler on a trail at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop before crossing Lexington Road, causing him to hit the side of the truck.

Haynes was ejected from the snowmobile and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

This crash came the afternoon following a separate snowmobile crash in southern Minnesota on Friday night when a 20-year-old snowmobiler hit a 23-year-old man who was walking on Cannon Lake near Faribault.
