(Madelia, MN) – A new prescription drug drop box has been installed in Madelia.

Madelia Police said the department received a grant through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for the box, which is for residents to safely dispose of old prescriptions, pet medications, aspirin, and other medicines.  Anything dropped in the bin will be discarded at no cost.

The box is located in the city hall entryway and can be accessed during business hours.

“Dropping them off here versus flushing them down the toilet or putting them in the landfill will help our streams, waterways, and our drinking water supplies long term,” said a Facebook post by Madelia police.   “Again, there’s no cost to you so we encourage you to bring them along when you pay bills or happen to be in the neighborhood.”
