(Morton, MN) – The Lower Sioux Indian Community received a new honor: the first Dakota-English dual-language road signs in the U.S. Monday afternoon.

There will be four of the dual-language signs, one on each main road leading into the community. The first sign was unveiled by the Lower Sioux Indian Community and the Minnesota Department of Transportation Monday afternoon, on County Road 24, just down the road west of Jackpot Junction Casino.

The four dual-language signs being installed in Redwood County designate the Lower Sioux Indian Community boundaries. MnDOT recognizes the unique sovereign status of federally recognized tribes, and stated it is committed to strengthening the government-to-government relationship with tribes across the state.
