Police in Cottage Grove are investigating after a woman was found injured at a storage unit.

Officers were alerted to a possible assault at Park Place Storage at 7552 West Point Douglas Road after receiving a call about a “person covered in blood” at 6:14 a.m. on Wednesday.

When they arrived at the scene they spoke with the caller, who showed pictures from her friend that showed she was bloody and there was a “brass shell casing by her feet.”

Police set up a perimeter, attempting contact with the person or people inside the unit via a PA system.

Eventually they breached the garage door and found the victim. Extensive searches determined that a male suspect had left before police got there.

Officers from four law enforcement agencies assisted with the operation, with detectives executing a search warrant on the storage unit.

At this stage, it’s not clear what happened and the extent of the woman’s injuries, with police releasing limited details on Wednesday.
